Vila do Bispo- Popular beach close to Lagos

Burgau - The small cobbled fishing village of Burgau lies about 10 Km to the west of Lagos. The beach is excellent for scuba diving and snorkelling in addition to providing optimum swimming. Parking space is usually in short supply near the beach in the height of the season and it is often better to park in the village at the top of Rua 25 de Abril and walk down to the shore (beware, the hill is steep).
The Burgau Beach Bar, now in its 23rd year, is an excellent place to breakfast, lunch or dine, while taking in the marvellous views over the beach and the ocean. You can also hire sunbeds, parasols and paddle-boats here. In the village itself, the atmospheric Smugglers’ Bar comes highly recommended, as does the Pig’s Head Pub for live music, Karaoke and all your favourite sporting TV (with Boddingtons, Stella, Cider and even Guinness on draught!).

Salema - Salema is a luxurious long white sandy beach affording excellent swimming in its warm clear turquoises waters. Situated about 17 Km from Lagos, more or less mid-way between Sagres and Burgau, Salema is popular with surfers, windsurfers, scuba divers and snorkellers.
There are several excellent beach-side restaurants and the charming fishing hamlet of Salema itself is utterly magical, with a friendly and relaxed ambiance, best appreciated, perhaps, on a summer’s evening, taking a cool glass of wine in one of the several bar-bistros. Close to Salema, there are several smaller cove beaches, sparsely populated even in the height of the season and offering superb swimming and snorkelling opportunities – try visiting nearby Boca do Rio or Figueira. For overnight stays, Salema contains a number of reasonably priced pensions and small hotels.

Zavial - Zaival is perhaps the main surfing beach on the Algarvian south coast.
To get to it you turn left off the EN 125 at Raposeira, the last village before Vila do Bispo and follow the signs for Hortas do Tabual and then signs for Zaival and its neighbouring beach of Ingrina, another magical beach famed for its intriguing rock formations and marine life which makes it a popular destination for scuba diving and snorkelling.
